Why a regular veterinary exam is important
Just as in human medicine, a regular, comprehensive exam is the foundation of effective preventive care and keeping your pet healthy. We recommend an annual examination for animals under 8 years of age and twice a year for senior pets or those with a chronic condition such as diabetes. This enables us to:
- Identify any risk factors that are unique to your pet
- Find and correct any health issues before they escalate into more serious conditions
- Tailor an ongoing care plan to manage your pet’s individual needs
- Get to know you and your pet and develop a bond with your animal companion
- Give you the opportunity to ask questions and raise any concerns you have about your pet
What’s involved in a wellness exam
We not only perform a thorough physical examination of your pet, including a dental exam to assess oral health, but may also recommend:
- Lab work to screen for and/or monitor conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease
- Vaccinations to ensure your pet is up to date on immunizations to prevent many serious and potentially deadly diseases
- Flea and tick protection
- Heartworm protection
- Nutritional counseling
- Behavioral assessment
