Preventive Care for Pets

You want your pet to enjoy a lifetime of good health. We do, too. That’s why we encourage you to adopt a regimen of regular wellness exams and screenings, vaccinations and other preventive care that’s appropriate for your pet’s age and stage of life.

Why a regular veterinary exam is important

Just as in human medicine, a regular, comprehensive exam is the foundation of effective preventive care and keeping your pet healthy. We recommend an annual examination for animals under 8 years of age and twice a year for senior pets or those with a chronic condition such as diabetes. This enables us to:

  • Identify any risk factors that are unique to your pet
  • Find and correct any health issues before they escalate into more serious conditions
  • Tailor an ongoing care plan to manage your pet’s individual needs
  • Get to know you and your pet and develop a bond with your animal companion
  • Give you the opportunity to ask questions and raise any concerns you have about your pet

What’s involved in a wellness exam

We not only perform a thorough physical examination of your pet, including a dental exam to assess oral health, but may also recommend:

  • Lab work to screen for and/or monitor conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease
  • Vaccinations to ensure your pet is up to date on immunizations to prevent many serious and potentially deadly diseases
  • Flea and tick protection
  • Heartworm protection
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Behavioral assessment
